About The Artist, Dennis Baccheschi
My art inspiration began in grade school when I discovered the reward
of self satisfaction after every doodle, number painting, or coloring book drawing. I used to do artwork in my rolltop
desk instead of doing my homework. I persued my love of art by taking as many art courses in high school as I could.
My high school art teacher, Edith White, encouraged me to go on to New England School of Art where I received an associates
degree and became an assistant art teacher at the school. Also instumental in my art career was my late uncle, Angelo
Gepponi. He was an artist, an educator and a lecturer about anything to do with art. He had studied at the Academy
of Design and the Art Students League and has won numerous prestigeous awards for his art. He is listed in "Who's
Who in American Art". As a child I was amazed at the art he would do or show when he visited. As a student, he would
critique my work and encourage me onward in my quest to become a good artist.
From there I was drafted into the army and became a Combat
Engineer Artist in Vietnam. After my honorable discharge from the Army I graduated from Fort Lauderdale University with
a Bachelor Of Science Degree in Art Education. After student teaching at Fort Lauderdale High School I spent my time traveling, golfing, skiing, and taking photographs, all
of which provided a great source of inspiration for my drawings and paintings. That lifestyle created the need
for me to earn a living from my art. So I began doing outdoor juried art festivals. Mostly I did conte' pencil portraits at the shows and sold an occasional oil landscape painting.
More recently I have been doing the portraits in my studio from photos.
While continuing with the portraits I wanted to improve on my painting skills and
studied with a very accomplished artist, John Traynor and also with the late Frank Mason from the Art Students League. I
learned how to paint outdoors and from nature. In a combined style of romanticism and impressionism I am enjoying painting
small landscapes on location and painting larger ones in my studio from my studies and photos. I try to evoke
a mood within the viewer through subject matter, color, depth and atmosphere.
Having done art shows for over 50 years, I have drawn or painted over 20,000 portraits and
nearly 1,000 oil landscapes. While the shows are still my main source of getting portrait commissions and
for selling my oil paintings, I can still get inspired traveling, camping, golfing, skiing and taking photographs.
